Background
ALSPEC were looking to identify a replacement ERP solution for an ageing legacy system that could no longer support the growth in business. The subsequent stages of the project were to design, build and implement the new ERP and Warehouse Management Solution.
Business Problem
The challenge was to determine the most appropriate business system for ALSPEC going forward. This relied on a process of identifying the organisation’s requirements so that the business could make an appropriate decision.
While conducting the evaluation and selection process, a number of strategic workshops were held to assess the future direction on a number of key areas in order to enable planning to commence prior to the design stage of the ERP implementation.
Results
An ERP Program Strategy was put in place to address critical areas of the business requirement.
Business Scenarios to cover all functional areas of the business were developed during a focussed series of workshops.
A Business System Evaluation and Selection process was conducted and a preferred vendor was identified leading to a recommendation to proceed to commercial and legal negotiations.
Microsoft Dynamics AX was selected as the ERP solution, whilst Manhattan Associates were selected to implement Scale as the Warehouse Management Solution (WMS).
A detailed Design Phase followed where Microsoft Dynamics AX was integrated with the Manhattan Scale solution.
ALSPEC are now in the Build and Implementation Phase. This is focused on building, configuring and implementing an integrated Microsoft Dynamics AX and Manhattan Scale solution at ALSPEC and rolling out the solution to the ALSPEC branches.
The new Warehouse Management Solution, Scale, has been successfully implemented in Sydney and Brisbane. Sites at Newcastle and Melbourne will follow later in 2011.
The first branch to go live with both Scale and Microsoft AX will be Darwin. This will be followed by Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide.
CMC are also providing Organisational Change Management support and working with ALSPEC’s Transition and Training Manager to deliver an effective program of change for the future.
